personnel lead by RD Reynulfo A. Juan joined the
50th PMSEA (Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association)
celebration on November 9 to 14, 2003 in Quezon City, Metro
Manila. This year’s theme is “S.H.E.S. 50: MAKING A
DIFFERENCE”.
 
The
celebration started with a mining caravan in
the afternoon of
November 9 – a sunday with
mining representatives from the
south (Bicol and Southern Luzon) converging at Petron Station in
Sto. Tomas, Batangas. The group from the south then proceeded to
Quirino Grandstand where it met the mining caravan from the
north. After a short break, the whole group proceeded to
Intramuros to join activities at WOW Philippines.

On
the 11th of November, participants to the PMSEA and
other mining stakeholders paraded around the Quezon Memorial
Circle.
  
Field
competitions among participating
mining companies on First-Aid, Fire fighting and Tug of
Peace were immediately held.
Winners for the different field competitions are: Lepanto
Consolidated Mining, Inc. (First Aid), Philex Mines, Inc. (Fire
Fighting) and Benguet Mining Corp. (Tug-of-Peace).
The
awards night was held in the evening of November 13 at the
Manila Hotel with Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal Arroyo gracing
the occasion as guest speaker wherein she expressed her full
support for the development and revitalization of the mining
industry in the Philippines.
The
theme, “S.H.E.S. 50: MAKING A DIFFERENCE”, conveys the
message of the minerals industry’s achievements in the
responsible development and management of the country’s
mineral wealth and commitment to continual improvement by
putting in practice S and H (safety and health management);
E
(environment protection); and S (social development) principles
to foster national progress and countryside development.
