The celebration started with a mining caravan in the afternoon of November 9 – a sunday with mining representatives from the south (Bicol and Southern Luzon) converging at Petron Station in Sto. Tomas, Batangas. The group from the south then proceeded to Quirino Grandstand where it met the mining caravan from the north. After a short break, the whole group proceeded to Intramuros to join activities at WOW Philippines.

Field competitions among participating  mining companies on First-Aid, Fire fighting and Tug of Peace were immediately held.

Winners for the different field competitions are: Lepanto Consolidated Mining, Inc. (First Aid), Philex Mines, Inc. (Fire Fighting) and Benguet Mining Corp. (Tug-of-Peace).

The awards night was held in the evening of November 13 at the Manila Hotel with Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal Arroyo gracing the occasion as guest speaker wherein she expressed her full support for the development and revitalization of the mining industry in the Philippines.

The theme, “S.H.E.S. 50: MAKING A DIFFERENCE”, conveys the message of the minerals industry’s achievements in the responsible development and management of the country’s mineral wealth and commitment to continual improvement by putting in practice S and H (safety and health management); E (environment protection); and S (social development) principles to foster national progress and countryside development.
