Daraga, Albay (June 21, 2004) - An orientation on the
transport of minerals was sponsored by Mines and Geosciences
Bureau R-V held at its office
at Baņag, Daraga, Albay on June 10, 2004. The seminar was in
response to reports received by the Office wherein spurious Ore
Transport Permits (OTP) are being used in the shipment of mineral
products from different mining areas of Bicol Region to
prospective buyers in Metro Manila. The seminar was attended by
various ENRO-LGU's in the provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur and
Camarines Norte and some DENR-CENRO personnel.
Topics
during the seminar were; transport of minerals and
apprehension of illegally sourced mineral products as discussed by Engr. Daniel
Sombanon, HEA. He further discussed the documents to be
filled-up and submitted by the apprehending officer immediately after seizure
of the minerals/mineral products among them a sworn
statement or affidavit surrounding the facts of the case together with the affidavit
of witness. Likewise a seizure receipt and custody receipt is
needed. These documents are needed to be attached prior
to the filing of the complaint.

Tips were also given on how to
detect a genuine OTP issued by the Regional Office i.e.
it should bear the logo of the regional
office which should be in original with a dry
seal. The Procedures
in the Ore Transport Permit issuance was tackled by Engr. Alex
Castillo, Chief of Monitoring and Tech. Services Section.
