Orientation on the Transport of Minerals

Daraga, Albay (June 21, 2004) -
An orientation on the transport of minerals was sponsored by Mines and Geosciences Bureau R-V held at its office at Baņag, Daraga, Albay on June 10, 2004. The seminar was in response to reports received by the Office wherein spurious Ore Transport Permits (OTP) are being used in the shipment of mineral products from different mining areas of Bicol Region to prospective buyers in Metro Manila. The seminar was attended by various ENRO-LGU's in the provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte and some DENR-CENRO personnel.

Topics during the seminar were; transport of minerals and apprehension of illegally sourced mineral products as discussed by Engr. Daniel Sombanon, HEA. He further discussed  the documents to be filled-up and submitted by the apprehending officer immediately after seizure of the minerals/mineral products among them a sworn statement or affidavit surrounding the facts of the case together with the affidavit    of   witness.    Likewise a seizure receipt and custody receipt is needed. These documents are needed to be attached prior to the filing of the complaint.

Engr. Daniel Sombanon (3rd from left) presents to the participants  how to detect a genuine OTP.

Tips were also given on how to detect a genuine OTP issued by the Regional Office i.e. it should bear the logo of the regional office which should be in original with a dry seal.  The Procedures in the Ore Transport Permit issuance was tackled by Engr. Alex Castillo, Chief of Monitoring and Tech. Services Section.
