IEC Capacitation Seminar held in Rapu-Rapu, Prieto Diaz and Castilla
A total of 15 IEC Capacitation Seminars held benefiting a total of 408 Barangays and 1,213 participants for CY 2009

            An Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Capacitation Seminar was held on October 20 in Rapu-Rapu, Albay; October 22 in Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon and on October 23 in Castilla, Sorsogon, giving local officials and residents the opportunity to know, prepare and cope with the occurrence of calamities in geohazard prone Municipalities in the Bicol Region.  

            The Seminar is a continuing program of the MGB which started 2 years back and with the recent rise in natural disaster due to geohazards, like floods, landslides and other geologic phenomena and where these could occur underscored the need for such seminar in knowing and understanding these geohazards so that local communities could better prepare for them.  

            In the 3 cited Municipalities, their respective elective and appointed officials which include, among others, the Local Chief Executive, MPDC and MDCC Action Officers, Municipal Engineer, DILG Officer, Deputized Civil Defense Coordinator, the Sangguniang Bayan Chairman for Environment and Land Use, Municipal Health Officer, MSWD Officer, other concerned officials and residents attended the one day separate seminar for each of the 3 concerned Municipalities. 

            Geologic Maps for each of the concerned Municipalities, which were the output of an intensified MGB Medium Scale Geologic Hazard Mapping Program, were disseminated and the point of discussion in the said seminars.  

             For Calendar year 2009, a total of 15 IEC Capacitation Seminar were held in the Provinces of Albay, Sorsogon and Camarines Sur benefiting a total of 408 Barangays and 1,213 participants. Reference: FORESIGHT VOL. 11 No.2 July-Dec 2009 issue
