Flood prone areas in the Bicol Region

There are at least 53 areas in the Bicol Region that are prone to flooding, a Regional Flood Hazard Map from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau in Bicol (MGB-V) showed.

MGB-V regional director Reynulfo A. Juan said these areas are found in the Provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Sorsogon and Catanduanes.

 “10 are located in Albay, 21 in Camarines Sur, 6 in Camarines Norte, 9 in Sorsogon and 7 in Catanduanes” Juan said.

 “Of these 4 are cities namely Legazpi and Tabaco in Albay, Naga City in Camarines Sur and Sorsogon City in Sorsogon” he added.

Juan clarified with the exception of Naga City only those in the coastal areas in the Cities of Legazpi, Tabaco and Sorsogon are susceptible to flooding.

Juan pointed out the other flood prone areas in Albay are Libon, Oas, Malinao, Polangui, Ligao, Pio Duran, Jovellar and Camalig; Milaor, Nabua, Bato, Baao, Minalabac, Bula, Gainza, Camaligan, Canaman, Magarao, Bombon, Calabanga, Libmanan, Cabusao, Sipocot, Tinambac, Sagnay, Lagonoy, Caramoran and Tigaon in Camarines Sur; Vinzons, Talisay, Mercedes, Daet, Labo and Basud in Camarines Norte; Irosin, Juban, Bulan, Magallanes, Casiguran, Gubat, Matnog and Sta. Magdalena in Sorsogon and Viga, Panganiban, Bagamanoc, Bato, Virac, San Andres and Pandan in Catanduanes. 

Juan explained only a portion of Camalig in Albay is affected, the coastal areas of Tinambac and Tigaon in Camarines Sur are flood prone so with Gubat, Matnog and Sta. Magdalena in Sorsogon.LValdez
