Bureau in Bicol (MGB-V) joined on February 02,2008, Saturday,
the 7th Bike for Hope advocacy ride from Naga
City
to Legazpi City.
Cycling enthusiasts
Administrative Officer IV Luis D. Valdez and Engineer III Astor
A. Rejuso represented the MGB-V and joined fellow bikers from
the DENR central and Bicol regional offices and PENRO/CENRO
Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte to form the DENR contingent,
which was led by PENR Officer Jose Z. Juego.
The advocacy ride started at
6:00AM from a gas station right at the heart of Naga
City in Camarines Sur
and ended at the Albay Astrodome in Albay District in the City
of Legazpi at around 10:45AM.
The Naga to Legazpi ride is a 105 kilometers route with brief
stop-over (more or less a minute) in Bato, Camarines Sur;
Polangui, Ligao and Camalig in Albay.
Senator Pia S. Cayetano,
Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Environment and Natural
Resources, at the start led the more or less 100 original riders
from Naga City
with several biker groups from Municipalities, starting from
Polangui, along the route joining. The participants-bikers
ballooned to an estimated, more or less 1,000 bikers when it
reached the City of Legazpi.
The advocacy ride has
successfully promoted (its aim) the importance of a healthy
lifestyle, raised consciousness and responsibility on
environmental matters including ecological solid waste
