Masbate, Rapu-Rapu mines pay
P523T in mine waste/ tailings fees
For failure to utilize some
985,084 tons of mine waste produced, contained and generated, the
Masbate Gold Project (MGP) in Masbate paid recently the Mines and
Geosciences Bureau-V (MGB-V) P231, 476.70 in mine waste fee.
The Rapu-Rapu Polymetallic
Project (RRPP), on the other hand, also paid the MGB-V some P10, 862.85
in mine waste fee for failure to utilize 217,257 tons of mine waste.
The MGP’s unutilize mine
waste is part of the 5,614,618 tons of mine waste produced from January
to June 2010 of which about 4,629,534 tons were utilized in six mine
waste dumps while that of RRPP, about 1,736,950 tons of mine waste
produced for the same period out of which 1,515,847 were utilized for
tailings dam build-up and 3,848 DMT for road maintenance.
In addition, MGP and RRPP
also paid the MGB-V an additional mill tailings fees of P251,441.40 and
P29,204.70 for producing 2,514,414 tons and 292,047 tons of mill
tailings, respectively.
Meanwhile, the IRDC in
Camalig, Albay was exempted by the MGB-V from paying any mine waste fee
since it has not produce nor generate any waste material for the period
under review.
